“In my 35 years of playing professionally in the Vancouver music scene, I would consider Cory to be the most successful and important promoter and producer of Canadian Jazz in the Vancouver area.”
Oliver Gannon, Jazz Guitarist
Aside from being a first-call musician, Cory Weeds has also dedicated himself to the presentation of Jazz in Vancouver, Canada, and North America. Thanks to that dedication, Weeds has developed a reputation for astutely programming and presenting Jazz at the highest level.
In August, 2015 Weeds became a full-time member The Coastal Jazz & Blues Society’s Programming team. The bulk of Cory’s current programming at Coastal Jazz takes place at Frankie’s Jazz Club on Beatty Street in Vancouver but Weeds is also involved in programming the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival. Cory Weeds Presents also presents music all over the city at various venues including The Italian Cultural Center, Hycroft at The University Women’s Club and Blue Frog Studios in White Rock.
See the Shows page for information on all events Weeds is performing in or presenting.
Shows that Weeds is presenting follow in the storied tradition of the Cellar Jazz Club, which he owned, played at, and programmed for more than 13 successful years. Iconic musicians he presented at the Cellar included George Coleman, Christian McBride, Jeff Hamilton, Joey DeFrancesco, David “Fathead” Newman, and many others.
Beyond Vancouver, Weeds also produces the annual New York With Weeds tour. Once a year Weeds takes about 40 Jazz lovers to New York City for an unforgettable musical experience. The tour includes visits to Jazz clubs off the beaten track and exclusive events such as private recording sessions. The seventh annual tour in March, 2017 will switch locations to Chicago, Illinois.
