I’m on the eve…or the eve of the eve of my second SOLD OUT presentation for The Coastal Jazz & Blues Society.  Our first show at Blue Frog Studios was packed to the rafters. 100+ people were thoroughly entertained by TIM TAMASHIRO and The Tilden Webb Trio. It was a fantastic night of music and more importantly it was fun. People were happy. They were smiling from ear to ear and that’s always a really nice thing to see.

This Saturday, January 31st, Vancouver native Seamus Blake rolls into Vancouver with the great pianist Geoffrey Keezer to perform the music of the late saxophonist EDDIE HARRIS.  The show is completely sold out which is fantastic. I’m looking forward to presenting at this brand new venue (at least for me, and for Coastal Jazz) called PAL Theatre.  It’s going to be a lot of fun. The vibe is always electric when Mr. Blake is in the house.  Im just sorry we didn’t do two nights!

It has been wonderful and eventful working under the umbrella of Coastal Jazz thus far.  All the staff have been great and its been a really big learning curve for me as I learn the ropes.  Special mention to Artistic Director Ken Pickering and to the new Executive Director Mike Forrester.  The pleasure includes everyone however: John Orysik, Kelly Creelman, Jenn Thomas, Judie Dahl, Jeff Turner and Phil Daum.  It’s been a blast thus far!

The next Cellar Jazz Series show is on February 28th when guitar great Russell Malone descends upon Vancouver. Be sure to visit HERE to get your tickets. It is 75% sold as of today so get on it and get your tickets!  Following that show is a wonderful Soul Party with The Night Crawlers with guest appearances by Dawn Pemberton, Jim Byrnes and Paul Pigat.  Tickets for that are HERE.

More announcements about shows in April and May are forthcoming so please check out Coastal Jazz  and this blog for announcements.  Jazz Festival is coming together nicely at Pyatt Hall and announcements about that will come soon to!

What can I even say about this? I am so proud of this recording.  The band is so killing and thanks to Dave Sikula they were captured and preserved perfectly for the world to enjoy!  I got word this morning from my radio promotions person Lisa Reedy that Cellar Live has its first #1 recording, that has actually been recorded at The Cellar.  Ian Hendrickson-Smith’s – Soul Of My Alto (an equally fantastic record) had a cup of coffee as the #1 recording on the Jazz Week Charts a few years ago.

Stay tuned for information on an appearance by the band that recorded on this city in a city near you including a stop in Vancouver!

On a personal note, I’m exited to say that in April I will be flying to Los Angeles to record an album with the great JEFF HAMILTON TRIO.  I’m so excited about this opportunity.  Pianist Tamir Hendelmen has arranged 6 tunes that I chose, Jeff Hamilton has arranged one and I have arranged one.   Im sooooo thrilled about this opportunity. We have been talking about it for a long time and the stars seemed to finally align (although I didn’t account for the brutal slide of the Canadian dollar).
