The Shadbolt Jazz Walk

On Sunday, December 1st Cory Weeds and The Cellar Music Group along with The City Of Burnaby will take over The Shadbolt Center For The Art’s in the beautiful city of Burnaby. The Shadbolt Jazz Walk will feature 11 different groups including international headliners such as organist Chris Hazelton, drummer Roy McCurdy and tenor saxophonists Grant Stewart and Stephen Riley as well as local groups led by Brad Turner, Dave Robbins, Jill Townsend and more. Travel from room to room and hear some of everything or hang out in one room and enjoy a whole set!  In addition to performances there will be round table discussions by the likes of archival record producer extraordinaire, Zev Feldman.

All in one day, all under the same roof! Mark your calendar as The Shadbolt Jazz Walk is where you’ll want to be on December 1st, 2019

On Sunday, December 1st, 2019 Cory Weeds and The Cellar Music Group took over The Shadbolt Center for the Arts in the beautiful city of Burnaby. The Shadbolt Jazz Walk featured eleven different groups, including a sizzling set by Chris Hazelton and the Jill Townsend Jazz Orchestra, a tribute to the late Cannonball Adderley with drummer Roy McCurdy and and unforgettable set by vocalist Lucy Yeghiazaryan.  The vibe in the center was incredible with people and jazz fans rushing from one room to the next to catch as much music as they could, musicians mingling with each other and with the fans.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the 2020 Jazz Walk was cancelled and we have been working diligently on trying to come up with the next edition.  We are very excited that with the help of FACTOR the Jazz Walk will morph into a mini jazz festival. 

JAZZ @ THE BOLT will take place on February 11 - 13, 2022 at The Shadbolt Center for the Arts.  The opening concert on February 11th will be New York's Groover Quartet + Big Band. The Groover Quartet consists of Mike LeDonne -b3 organ, Eric Alexander - tenor saxophone, Peter Bernstein - guitar and Joe Farnsworth.  The big band will be made of some of Vancouver's finest! On Saturday, February 12th 11 bands will descend upon the Bolt for an incredible day of music featuring The Alexander Claffy Quintet with Nicole Glover, The Michael Stephenson Quintet featuring Benny Benack III, Anthony Wonsey and his trio, Cory Weeds and The Groover Quartet - O Sole Mio! and more!  With the help of FACTOR, Sunday, February 13th will be an ALL Canadian day with groups led by Katherine Penfold, Steve Maddock and Amanda Tosoff as well as The Tilden Webb Trio with Jocelyn Gould, Cory Weeds and Ryan Oliver with Strings featuring Phil Dwyer. The final headlining concert will be a co-operative septet that includes of Canada's finest female musicians including: Allison Au - saxophone, Jocelyn Gould - guitar, Sanah Kadoura -drums, Joanna Majoko -  vocals, Amanda Tosoff -piano, Jodi Proznick -bass and Rachel Therrien -trumpet.

Jazz @ The Bolt will be a celebration of music, joy, diversity and equality!
